Border Index, Back

This is a book documenting landscapes along Atlantic Avenue. Urban borders are often depicted as hard edges along major throughfares such as Atlantic Avenue. These boundaries inform census data and urban policy, but do not capture the ongoing processes by which boundaries are created and enforced. In this book, images of each block are scaled by height relative to the highest percentage of neighborhood association to show varying levels of overlap in neighborhood identity, history and belonging that boundaries are unable to capture.
